Raising Academic Standards

This project has been ongoing for three years, initiated first by Provost Richard Davenport and the Academic Senate, and now led by Interim Provost Robert Kohrman and the Academic Senate. A 2001 survey of CMU faculty and staff revealed the goal of raising academic standards is the top priority for the institution.

Over the past few years, the first steps we need to take in order to raise academic standards have been identified. A thorough review of the academic policies for the purpose of revising them to enhance standards is underway in the Academic Senate. A formal statement of shared expectations that will enhance learning and therefore are expected of students, faculty, departments, staff and administrators has been developed and distributed widely. In addition, grading standards, and admissions and scholarship criteria are receiving attention in light of their ability to set and reinforce high standards and expectations.

For a review of the specific activities, please visit the on-line portfolio of activities.
